IMPORTANT
This Airplane Flight Manual, POH published by manufacturer, is valid for all serial numbers. Equipment and modification level (design details) of the airplane may vary from serial number to serial number. Therefore, some of the information contained in this manual is applicable depending onthe respective equipment and modification level.
- DA 40 is a single engine airplane.
- Span: 12 m approx.
- Length: 8 m approx.
- Height: 2 m approx.
(Fig. Doc. # 6.01.01-E Rev. 8 01-Dec-2010 Page 1 – 21)
Mass (Weight)
- MZFW : 1150 kg
- MTOW @ normal category : 1150 / 1200 kg (depend on modification)
- MLW : 1092 / 1150 kg (depend on strut modification)
- Max. load in standard baggage compartment : 30 kg
Wing
- Dihedral: approx. 5°
- Leading edge sweep: approx. 1°
Horizontal Tail
- Angle of incidence : approx. -3.0° relative to longitudinal axis of airplane
Operating altitude
- maximum demonstrated operating altitude is 16,400 ft (5,000 m)
- maximum approved operating altitude for US registered airplanes is 14,000 ft MSL unless an approved supplemental oxygen system is installed.
Engine
- (L)IO-360 M1-A
- MAP Green arc : 13 – 30 inHg (fyi: 1atm = is 29.92 inHg)
- Max. take-off RPM : 2700 rpm
- Max. continuous RPM : 2400 rpm
- RPM Gree arc : 500 – 2400rpm
- Fuel : AVGAS 100(LL) or 100/130(LL)
- Fuel pressure green arc: 14 – 35 psi
- Fuel flow : 1 – 20 USgal/hr
- Fuel Tank (Standard) quantity – indication showing 15 /17 USgal
- Fuel Tank Amber light (L/R) – when less than 3 USgal
Notes:
Total fuel tank capacity : 2 x 20.6 USgal
Unusable fuel : 2 x 0.5 USgal
However, fuel gauge could be able to showing 15/17 USgal per tank
Two more important notes –
- Max. permissible differences between L and R tank is 10 USgal
- Fuel Tank Amber light (L/R) come on when less than 3 USgal, with +/- 1 USgal deviation, so just play safe, when fuel tank Warning light come on, assume lesser fuel in tank – only 2 USgal remain
- Cylinder Head Temp (CHT) Max : 260 C
- Cylinder Head Temp (CHT) Green arc : 66 – 246 C
- Oil pressure @ Minumum (IDLE) : 25 psi
- Oil pressure @ Maximum : 98 psi
- Oil pressure @ normal range 55-95 psi
- Oil temperature Max. : 118 C
- Oil temperature Green arc : 65 – 110 C
- Oil quantity : 4 – 8 qts
notes:
- 1 pound-force per square-inch = 0.0689 bar
- Engine Oil should be selected according to total time in service (TTIS) of engine as well as OAT at Ground Level – detail Ref. Operating Limitations at Chapter 2
- Votage green arc : 25 – 30 V
- Ammeter green arc : 2 – 75 A
AIRSPEED
AIRSPEED INDICATOR MARKINGS

Red arc 178 KIAS
NOTES:
- Va – Maneuvering speed : 94/108/111 KIAS – vary depending on MTOW as well as the serial number
- Vfe max. LDG: 91 KIAS
- Vfe max. T/O: 108 KIAS
