Jet ≠ Turbine

[Ref ACE The Technical Pilot Interview]

Thrust = air mass × velocity

Jet engines adopted the principle of taking a small mass of air and expelling air at an extremely high velocity

Later gas turbine engines have evolved into taking and producing a large mass of air and expelling air at a relatively slow velocity (e.g., high-bypass engine).

Turbofan : Thrust = AIR MASS × velocity  (LARGE mass flow, small velocity change)

Turbojet : Thrust = air mass × VEOLOCITY  (small mass flow, LARGE velocity change)
