What’s the coordinate of Hong Kong?
It is a quite tricky question since coordinate aims to pinpoint a position (location) on the map – it is representing a point (express in latitude and Longtidue) in lieu of an area.
Latitude is a position along a meridian of longitude – use to describe the relative N-S position with reference to the Equator.
Longtidue a position along a parallel of latitude – use to describe the relative E-W position with reference to the Prime meridian.
Anyway, below are few captures from Google Map for your reference :
At the northern area, near the Shenzhen City, we can see the latitude is 22.5 ° N;
At the southern area, near the Po Toi Island, we can see the latitude is 22.2 ° N;
At the eastern area, near Sai Kung East Country Park, we can see the Longtidue is 114.4 ° E;
At the western area, over the South China Sea, we can see the Longtidue is 113.8 ° E;
Well, if I have to say a coordinate in Hong Kong?
That would be 22.3 N 113.9 E – i.e somewhere in the VHHH.
Indeed, I have made some calculation to obtain this coordinate from the HK AIP.
